Game of Rhones is a combative celebration of the classic grape varieties of the Rhone Valley in France. Think Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussane to name just a few.

More than 40 of Australia’s best producers will feature at Game of Rhones in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne including Torbreck, Tscharke, Grant Burge, Schild and Voyager Estate, among others.

There will also be wines from ‘Beyond the Wall’ – like the Rhone Valley (of course!), the USA and more.

The Rhone Bar, new in 2014, will be manned by some of the individual cities best sommeliers and players will be able to buy a glass of wine from the Rhone Valley for a very good price – a Cote Rotie for $15 - $20 - everyone wins!

Not only will wine-lovers be able to taste some of these wine maker’s most interesting wines, they will be able to see their heroes dressed as their favourite Game of Thrones characters. Naturally.

The interactive showcase allows guests to taste and choose their favourite variety, style and region by casting their votes on iPads throughout venue. They can also rate or even purchase wines they have tasted at the event on the tailored Game of Rhones app.

In the ‘torture chamber’, a highlight of 2013, a room of willing participants is blindfolded for tastings, and there will once again be a prize for best-dressed winemaker. There could be a few Joffrey’s and a handful of Khaleesi’s wandering around with glass in hand.

The 2014 Game of Rhones series will see hunger pains relieved with suitably hearty fare on offer from locals operators including Delectaballs food truck in Adelaide, Burn City Smokers in Melbourne and Statler and Waldorf Gastropub in Brisbane.

Australian beer and cider producers showcasing their wares across the series will include Swell Beer and B-Cider in Adelaide, Two Birds Brewing in Melbourne, Green Beacon Brewing Company in Brisbane and the Yarra Valley’s Napoleone Cider will be at the Brisbane and Melbourne installments.
