Tony Bilson has been one of Australia's leading chefs for over forty years. From a modest childhood in country Victoria, Tony quickly established himself as a true bon vivant.

In Insatiable he recalls wild nights and unbridled appetites with an extraordinary cast of characters including artists, actors, writers, politicians and, of course, chefs and restaurateurs both in Australia and around the world.

Insatiable is a roller coaster read covering addictions, marriages, politics, religion, restaurants and the world of food and wine as well as everything in between; a Who's Who of Australian cultural life from the late 1960s to the present day.

All the restaurant and chef names will be familiar if you are or have been a food and wine lover though some have moved on to other pursuits or arenas – MasterChef for instance.

Insatiable has all the gossip about what really went on during the heady days of excess but it is also a testament to Tony's capacity for reinvention and his pursuit of culinary perfection (not to mention his stamina!).

"Tony Bilson's memoir is a looking-glass into a time of unparalleled development in food in Australia and his part in it," says Neil Perry.

Tony Bilson is the 'Godfather of Australian Cuisine' and his many restaurants – Tony's Bon Gout, Berowra Waters Inn, Kinselas, Bilson's at Circular Quay, Fine Bouche, Treasury, Ampersand, Canard, Bilson's Restaurant and Number One Wine Bar – have been cultural touchstones in advancing fine dining in this country.

In 2007, Tony was honoured with an Award for Professional Excellence, acknowledging his lifetime contribution to major food and wine publications around Australia.

Insatiable by Tony Bilson is published by Pier 9, an imprint of Murdoch Books (Australia, October 2011; hc, 305 pp) and retails in Australia for A$39.99.
