Dominique Rizzo is probably best known for her regular appearances on Ready, Steady, Cook. She is a Sicilian-Australian chef with a passion for natural, health-giving foods and My Taste of Sicily is her first cookbook.

Her inspiration for the book evolved out of her Sicilian heritage and trips back to Sicily. This helped her in collecting the 130 recipes found in the book. Rizzo describes Sicilian cooking as '...honest, delicious food of a beautiful land and its people'.

My Taste of Sicily covers a wide range of Sicilian foods. From beautiful looking summer salads that make use of whole-leaf herbs and are simple to construct through to sweet risotto balls with chocolate crema that require slightly more effort to construct, but with equally pleasing, and more decadent, results.

There are certainly many appealing recipes that beg to be tried including wild mushroom, lemon and pancetta meatloaf, braised squid, zucchini flower frittata, and the list could easily go on. Recipes look healthy, delicious and filling and there are plenty of them.

The book also comes with a section on a Sicilian pantry. This chapter gives recipes that are staples in Sicilian cooking like passata, olives, dressings, pestos and liqueurs. Keeping these in the pantry will mean you are always ready for a bit of Sicilian cooking.

The recipes in My Taste of Sicily range from quite simple through to more complex, though there is a good range of both, and some in between. Instructions are easy to understand and above each is a message from Rizzo giving a small amount of background information and tips to do with each dish.

The book contains full page colour photos of most recipes and there is enough room on each recipe page to jot down your own ideas for possible modifications to dishes. The photography is typical of a high quality cookbook clearly showing how recipes should look upon their completion.

Overall My Taste of Sicily is a high quality Sicilian based cookbook that differs from a lot of  mainstream cookbooks by giving a true taste of Sicily that will keep you coming back for more.
