The Hunter Valley is the longest continuous winegrowing region in the country so its history and heritage are crucial to drawing the evolving picture of Australia's wine industry. Australia's foremost wine historian Dr Julie McIntyre and renowned sociologist John Germov have combined their considerable skills on a four year research project and a standout part of that is a new book.

We have two copies of Hunter Wine. A history. to be won.  It's a must-read for winelovers and especially those interested in our wine history as it uncovers new stories about the generations of people involved.

Done from a scientific perspective rather than from the contemporary marketing material, it unearths a new and even more interesting narrative.

Wine journalist Jenni Port says " This is an important Australian wine book that uncovers new truths, challenges old myths and moves at a cracking pace with a delicious wine tale just right for the present”

It traces through six generations of wine producers from when the first vines were planted in 1828 to the changing tastes and rising interest in wine of the 1980s. A fascinating view of the changing historical and many personalities that shaped the Hunter.

Many public and private archives were researched and 22 Hunter Valley personalities were interviewed, preserving their oral history and memories.

An exhibition showcasing the work is on until the 14th October at Newcastle Museum where it will also be the backdrop for the launch of this important piece of Australian history.

Enter now and you could be taken on that cracking journey through the Hunter's history.
