In 1838 Johann Stein arrived from Germany, carrying the first cuttings of Rhine Riesling to survive in Australia. They were destined for the vineyard at Camden Park, owned by the renowned sheep-breeders, the Macarthur family. The vineyard flourished under Johann's stewardship, just as the Mudgee vineyard of his descendant, Robert Stein, planted some 138 years later, prospers today.

Itself now over 40 years old and carrying on that family tradition, Robert Stein Winery is established as one of Mudgee's (and the state's) premier wine producers and earning the rating of Five Stars from the Halliday Wine Companion.

The winery has also received many awards and accolades, most recently for it's 2017 Dry Riesling as well as receiving 94 points for their shiraz from the Halliday Wine Companion.

To celebrate we have two mixed half cases of Robert Stein wines which include this award-winning riesling and the 2013 Reserve Shiraz to be won!

The 2017 vintage was thought the best yet for riesling, a notion borne out at the recent NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show when the Robert Stein Dry Riesling was awarded top gold, before going on to be judged Riesling of the Show. This followed its success at the 2017 Cowra Wine Show where it was also awarded the Best Riesling of the Show. Stop press 6 Nov: and it's just won Best Young Riesling at the NSW Wine Awards!

According to winemaker Jacob Stein (Robert's grandson), the Mudgee's continental climate and excellent soil profiles contribute to the region's ability to produce great wines with a distinct regional character. After spending seven vintages abroad and nationally, Jacob returned to Mudgee in 2009 as the region's youngest winemaker and went on to be awarded Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year a few years later.

Robert Stein Winery is located a short drive from Mudgee where their cellar door extends a warm welcome and the Pipleclay Pumphouse Restaurant offers a premier dining experience.
