Horlin-Smith Wines are seriously yummy. They source grapes from two premium regions in South Australia – McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. These two regions are very different viticulturally, but both produce outstanding wines of intense varietal character - from the warm rich Cabernets and Shirazes of the McLaren Vale to steely fruit driven Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays of the Adelaide Hills.

The Adelaide Hills has a wonderful cool climate and viticultural area ideally suited to produce fine aromatic wines. The combination of fantastic natural soil, good rains and a long cool summer help to produce a wine of great style & finesse.

The Horlin-Smith family has had a 25 year passion with the Adelaide Hills wines and now with our own range of wines Ardent Estates the passion continues.

Equally theirs is a love affair with the McLaren Vale district through the wonderful fruit purchased from the Baker Gully area. The McLaren Vale has the combination of ideal soil types and a beautiful sunny Mediterranean climate. The cooling afternoon maritime breezes from the spectacular Gulf St.Vincent and along with careful vineyard management makes for vines of low yield. These grape have intense varietal character. It is well known - wonderful fruit makes great wine - this allows for a minimalist intervention approach from our award-winning winemaking team.

Ardent Estates White Label Range:

As the name Ardent suggests Horlin-Smith's winemakers are passionate and zealous about wines under this label. Their philosophy behind this range is to capture the best that each premium Australian wine region has to offer.

McLaren Vale Shiraz 2005 $19.00

From McLaren Vale this Shiraz is vibrant red in colour with a rich, ripe aroma of pepper, spice and clove aromas. Full bodied on the palate, this is a textured mouthful of Shiraz that offers well - rounded flavours with earth and oak flavours. The firm, mouth - filling tannins have a silky texture and will ensure longevity for those, patient enough to wait. With the benefit of twelve months bottle maturation, the 2005 Ardent Shiraz is drinking well now, but will improve with cellaring for an additional 5 years.
