Here in Australia and New Zealand we're two thirds of the way through summer, but the fun in wine country hasn't stopped just because we're getting back into the swing of work, school and things. Grape harvesting and winemaking has already started in our northern wine regions; in the cool-climate regions like Tasmania the vignerons are still waiting for veraison, when the grapes start to colour and the bird protection nets go on.

So, the choice is yours. Getting out in wine country now, the downside is that you're unlikely to be able to meet wine makers where vintage has already started, but on the plus side there's lots of action to see.  And there are wine and food festivals and events on almost everywhere around Australia and NZ, taking advantage of what can be the best weather of the year.

Scroll down for a selection, or for the full list (searchable by date and State/region), check out our wine and food events calendar here »

If you're planning ahead for a trip to our wine regions, remember, we have Australia's largest number of wine producers right here (nearly 5000 of them, around twice as many as the government seems to know about), where you can find the hidden gems, the new hipster and indie labels, the tried and true, venues for weddings, long lunches, the small boutique producers and everyone else, with opening hours, wine types and everything you want to know – even whether they cater for the kids!

Just search in the VV search box on the right.

Oh, and did we tell you we also have a growing list of cideries, microbreweries and distilleries too? (Can't find your fave? Or have you just set one up?!  Email the name and location to Cameron and he'll make sure they're added).

So if you are  looking for producers, restaurants, cellar doors and cool places to relax, you're in the right place. Plus we have hundreds of articles, interviews, itineraries, videos and rich information on our wines, ciders, brewers and makers, so you can find the best places to go and how to get there. Around 5000 people visit our website every day, looking for this sort of info – thanks everyone for visiting us!

We have lots of DIY itineraries and tours, too.

Remember too, if you're on the road and you are a member of any State auto association (NRMA, RACV, RAA etc) and you're in or visiting Victoria or Tasmania, you can also save when you visit vineyards with our Wine and Food Selections program with RACV and RACT – pretty handy for your wine country travels. Save at:

  • wineries and vineyards
  • food producers, makers and sellers
  • regional restaurants
  • microbreweries, and
  • accommodations and attractions (Tasmania only).

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy Valentine's Day and safe travels from Robyn, Kerry, Cameron, Laura and the VV team.

PS Some sad news – we lost a valued member of our team over summer, the ever-cheerful Charlie. He will be sadly missed, and the team will never be the same. Expect some changes on VV soon as we adapt and move into our next phase. Thank you for your patience over this sad time.
