Sydney is certainly a beautiful city; its coastal areas, harbour settings and bush laden foreshores are all part of its appeal. The walks covered in this book will help you to explore and appreciate the more natural parts of the city regardless of your fitness level and experience.

This user friendly colour guide, brought to you by Katrina O'Brien, travel guide author and local resident, helps you navigate through the hustle and bustle of Sydney city and explore the natural beauty of Sydney by foot. Most recently our own Kerry Scrambler tackled the Watsons Bay to South Head walk and can heartily recommend it as a prelude to a lunch at 'Doyles on the Beach'. The harbour put on its best show of colourful yachts and sunshine. It was a fantastic day.

For those new to Sydney and looking for walks that take in all the major sights of the CBD, the Circular Quay to Botanic Gardens and the Circular Quay to Darling Harbour walks make sure you don’t miss a thing with spectacular views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and many great picnic spots in the garden where you can relax in the shade of the fig trees while you eat.

A short ferry ride away you could try the Manly to North Head walk talking in the history of the Quarantine station and the National Artillery Museum, or walk from Mosman Bay to Taronga Zoo, a nice shady walk you could do with older children (there is a steep climb over the Ridge from Mosman Bay) especially if you plan on visiting the zoo.

Still unsure about enjoying the sights of Sydney using your feet as the primary mode of transport? This guide will make sure you choose a walk that meets both your ability and the amazing sights your chosen destination offers. Included for each walk is timing, ease of walk, what to look out for, maps, transport services, the highlights and even if swimming is available. There is also a table at the front of the book which summarises this information by region providing walkers with a quick guide to the walks in the area.

Whether you are walking for fitness, looking for a new track to follow, searching for the perfect tourist walk, or simply looking for a relaxing way to spend Sunday afternoon then this guide will have you on the right path.
