Barossa Gourmet Weekend promises most exciting and mouth-watering program yet
Friday the 16th to Sunday 18th August
The Barossa, in South Australia is one of the world’s great wine regions, renowned for its food, wine, and easy-going lifestyle.
Barossa Gourmet Weekend commenced in the late 80s as a celebration showcasing the region's award winning wines paired with culinary delights from Adelaide restaurants whilst enjoying a relaxing day out. The traditional offering of gourmet food, wine and live entertainment at cellar doors is now complimented with a series of special events with food and wine experiences, family fun days, markets, recitals, long lunches, cooking classes and wine master-classes being just some of the highlights of the overflowing program.
This year there are over 30 events during the weekend of festivities including 10 traditional Winery Days hosted by Barossa Gourmet Weekend stalwarts Gomersal, Whistler, Seppeltsfield, Pindarie, Jacobs Creek, Kies Family Wines, Kellermeister, Gibsons, Chateau Tanunda and Peter Lehmann.
For those who just can’t get enough action during the day, there are special evening events such as a winery evening at Edenmae, beer and wine degustation dinner at Barossa Valley Brewing, curry night at Kellermeister, Jazz in the Cellar at Seppeltsfield and a dinner and show at Cafe´ Y.
“We’re extremely excited to present such a high calibre festival this year that features so many must- attend events across the three day program,” exclaims Nicole Hodgson, Barossa Gourmet Weekend Chairperson. “From cooking classes, degustation dinners; through to the traditional winery days that are bursting with the taste and hospitality that is ingrained in the rich heritage of the Barossa food and wine culture. There is something for everyone on the program – from the Barossa locals to visitors alike. “
Tourism Barossa, Regional Tourism Manager Cathy Wills said “What makes the Barossa Gourmet Weekend unique and sees the event develop an ever-increasing, loyal following each year is its ability to showcase the region’s world famous wineries alongside our artisan food producers, chefs and of course our Barossa hospitality.”
“Located an hour from Adelaide, this is the perfect opportunity to shake off those winter blues and enjoy the flavours of the Barossa.”
As in previous years, the Barossa welcomes the whole family with many wineries providing activities and menus specifically for children.
Responsible consumption of alcohol and a strong commitment to the safety of event patrons sees the continuation of the Designated Driver Program. Designated Drivers can register at participating wineries to receive an RAA Designated Driver pack and can then take advantage of free water, soft-drink, tea or coffee.
The LinkSA shuttle bus stops at pick-up points throughout the Barossa and provides a cost effective means of transportation for those that can’t decide on a Designated Driver. Transport to the Barossa Gourmet Weekend couldn’t be easier with coaches departing from Adelaide and Gawler linking with the shuttle bus service in the Barossa.
The 2013 Barossa Gourmet Weekend will be held between Friday 16th August and Sunday 18th August. For program, transport and RAA Designated Driver information and additional accommodation information, please visit www.barossagourmet.com
