Idyllically located right on the Derwent River and just 39km from Hobart, Tasmania’s Truffle Lodge offers visitors a quintessentially Australian luxe bush glamping experience.

The new luxury eco lodge first opened its doors to guests in 2017 and is now preparing for its second busy season, with extended accommodation and communal facilities, a freshly restored beach and an expanded range of on and off-site experiences and activities.

Named from one of the first truffieres planted in Australia, Truffle Lodge has just re-opened with three more luxury safari style en-suite tents, bringing the total number to eight. Other new additions include a private bush bath, a large open tented shelter for outdoor activities and functions and a line-up of activities for those that are not seduced by the go-slow magic.

The truffiere, which had been abandoned and covered in wild blackberry vines, is now being nurtured back to life.

Each tent at Truffle Lodge is double walled and triple roofed for maximum comfort and features a handmade wooden bath, rain shower, extra-large deep double beds, a coffee machine, tea making facilities and a bar fridge, as well as a host of other creature comforts.

Owners Laurelle and John Grimley say that this season they will be focusing on multi-day packages that allow guests to arrive and simply relax.

‘Do as much or as little as you wish, where your day is defined by the rhythm of the sun, and your sleep is lulled by the sounds of the night’

‘We like to do things a little differently here. Truffle Lodge is luxurious in its detail, but it is also raw, simple and pared back. It reflects our belief in slow hospitality, where the quality of each experience is more important than the quantity. We encourage our guests to pause in the pursuit of happiness and just be happy.’

Breakfasts, snack lunches, drinks and three course evening meals are served in Truffle Lodge’s communal areas, which include a new long table in the orchard. The set menu dinner each evening features hand-made dishes prepared by the chef using seasonal local produce wherever possible, accompanied with local wines, many of which are hard to find.

This season Truffle Lodge’s range of on and off-site activities has been extended to include platypus stalking by kayak, downhill dirt biking, 4WD and bushwalk adventures, fly fishing, abseiling, photographic and scenic helicopter tours. Those seeking gentler pursuits can enjoy morning yoga, behind the scenes tours at historic Tasmanian family estates as well as campfire talks and story-telling – all with a unique local flavour.

With the new season fast approaching, owners Laurelle and John say:  ‘We’re really looking forward to welcoming more guests for Truffle Lodge’s second season. We offer a unique experience under a million stars in an exceptionally stunning location. Glamping with us gives our guests the opportunity to enjoy time out, authentic hospitality and adventures, taste fine local foods and wines and possibly sleep even better than they do at home!’
