Huon Valley Mid-winter festival - 2015
Ranelagh Recreation Ground
Ranelagh TAS 7109

Our valley is pretty cold and wet in the dead of winter. It’s far away. It’s dark.

Yet thousands come to get wild, wassail and burn a two storey wicker man.

Come get lost and found.

If you haven’t sung to an apple tree whilst banging pots and pans by firelight lately, head to the Huon Valley to celebrate the regions apple picking history and join in the ages-old tradition of wassailing – basically scaring nasties out of the orchard’s cider trees to ensure a bumper autumn crop.

And if singing to the trees doesn’t bob your Geeveston fanny, enjoy a Friday night of feasting, craft ciders and music by the fireside to kick off the festival.

2019 Musical acts include:

Handsome Young Strangers
In less than 12 months, Sydney’s Handsome Young Strangers (HYS) managed to navigate a steady course from backyard sing-alongs around the barbie – to major festival and rock stages all over the country.
Hello Tut Tut
Self medicating on proper happiness and adequate fun Hello Tut Tut have made a speedy ascent on to the World Music scene, winning over local and international crowds with their performances at Rainbow Serpent Festival, Falls Festival (Byron Bay), Bello Winter Music Festival, Live en Août (New Caledonia), and a collection of Australia’s most recognised venues and night markets.

Hello Tut Tut takes its audience on an high energy, stimulating musical safari shaped by the aesthetics of cultures from around the world. Exploring their heritage through a unique blend of gypsy, klezmer, balkan and latin sounds, they will entertaith a finesse, charm and intensity that will get you up and dancing.

Hot Potato Band
Over the past 4 years, Hot Potato Band has seen an unprecedented evolution. Beginning their journey as roving street performers, the 10 piece band from Sydney, Australia have been twice around the the literal and figurative block. Like a muscle they have exercised their musicianship and showmanship which is the likely reason they leave lasting impressions on festivals and audiences. Hot Potato Band is proud of their all acoustic line up. The absence of electronic instrumentation has set them apart from many other acts and continues to tie them to their roving roots, but not to the stage. The bands energy is released through an amalgamation of catchy music and lyrics, infectious dance moves, and audience interaction, attributed to their mobility as a band and the breaking down of barriers between stage and audience. Although difficult to describe their genre, HPB continues to compile their arsenal of songs inspired by Pop, Funk, Ska, Reggae and bound by the classic sounds of New Orleans brass bands.
