Huon Valley Mid-winter festival - 2015

The Apple Shed
Huonville TAS 7109

Dust off your tatters, top hats and pagan worshiping finery for a repeat performance of last year’s trail blazing Mid-Winter Festival.

If you haven’t sung to an apple tree whilst banging pots and pans by firelight lately, head to the Huon Valley to celebrate the regions apple picking history and join in the ages-old tradition of wassailing – basically scaring nasties out of the orchard’s cider trees to ensure a bumper autumn crop.

And if singing to the trees doesn’t bob your Geeveston fanny, enjoy a Friday night of feasting, craft ciders and music by the fireside to kick off the festival.

Musical acts include:

Frank Yamma
Frank Yamma is a traditional Pitjantjatjara man from Australia's central desert. An extraordinary songwriter and an exceptional guitarist, he has an incredible voice, rich, deep and resonant.

Frank Yamma is regarded by many as one of Australia’s most important Indigenous Songwriters, brutally honest tales of alcohol abuse, cultural degradation, respect for the old law and the importance of country are spine tingling. His ability to cross cultural and musical boundaries constantly sets new standards through his music.

Ramshackle Army
As a band which draws on a vast array of influences including the punk they grew up on, the Celtic traditions of their family history and Australian colonial heritage, they have brought to the table a sound marketable in any domain.

With five years and countless shows, across two continents under their collective belts, THE RAMSHACKLE ARMY, have steadily built a cross genre following which has seen their name appear all over the world. The 6 piece Celtic punk band started in the Melbourne pub scene in June 2010, made the jump from the inner suburban pubs they call home, to the wider Australian punk audience and have now made multiple trips to the States with some of the scene’s biggest names.

The Scrims
The Scrims are a five-piece authentic, rootsy, tasty folk band from Melbourne Australia. Authentic, rootsy, bluegrass and swing. Real tasty. Previously "The Scrimshaw Four
', The Scrims are a high energy, Folk/Bluegrass band from Melbourne. Featuring Banjo, two Guitars, Violin, Double Bass and Stomp-box their live show will make your feet fall off from dancing so hard. Described as "Gypsy Doof Doof" The Scrims have been busking and performing almost in every location possible, up and down the coast of Australia, there isn’t a show where these five young men wont get everybody up and jiggin' around. The band’s talent for writing quirky songs with a dark tone, all the while keeping a happy beat that gets the dance floor going has gained a huge following around Melbourne and Australia.
