Perfect Pear for summer - Willie Smith's adds Perry to the range.

Tasmania's popular Willie Smith's Organic Cider has launched a Perry into the fast growing Pear Cider segment.

The crew from the Huon Valley cidery have been experimenting with a perry for a short time and decided to bottle their latest variation. It was officially launched at Ash & Besters, the new bar by Ethos in Elizabeth St, Hobart, on Tuesday the 18th of November.

Willie Smith's co-founder Sam Reid said, just like the award-winning Willie Smith's business, the process of developing the perry was organic.

"The original idea for doing a perry came from an orchardist just down the road in Cygnet, who had a bunch of pears left over that he couldn’t sell," explains Mr Reid.

"We picked them and then fermented them with a champagne yeast and were initially a little unsure about the product. Not knowing what to do with it, we left it in the cool room to round out and develop a more complex flavour.

"When we opened the Apple Shed we put the perry on tap and over time we have been changing and evolving it."

"Last season we got hold of some organic Beure Bosc pears and have continued to tweak the product until we got it to a place where the feedback on tap has been so good that we have decided to bottle it."

The Willie Smith's Perry will be available nationally (excluding NT and WA) in bottles and on tap.

Mr Reid said it was exciting to be launching a new product just two years after the business first began.  And it is special to be able to host it at Ethos Eat Drink’s new venture, Ash & Besters, he said.

"We're very supportive of their philosophy of working with local, sustainable and artisanal produce as we think it will make the world a better place," Mr Reid said.

Tasting Notes:

The Willie Smith's Perry is unfiltered.  It's made using Beurre Bosc pears and is fermented with champagne yeast.

It exhibits a cloudy pale straw appearance, and harmonizes the natural sweetness of pear with soft apple notes and a refreshing zesty citrus finish.

With a well rounded mouth feel and balance of sweetness and acidity it is the perfect drink for summer!
