Best's Great Western had its beginnings in 1866 and has been continuously family-run and owned for 150 years. It's also home to some of Australia's oldest and most significant vineyards.

Great Western is part of the Grampians wine region in Western Victoria and lies between the townships of Stawell and Ararat, on the Melbourne-Adelaide Highway. It's close to the Grampians National Park, about two hours west of Melbourne, a spectacular natural place and home to some spectacular wines as well!

As a shiraz ‘house’, Best’s Great Western has gathered experience through its long winemaking history and the legacy that brings.

For those looking for an introduction to the regional style of Great Western shiraz, Best's Bin1 is ideal. Made predominantly from their own vineyards and meticulously crafted with the same attention to detail as the icon wines, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s Great Western winemaking ideals and the distinctive Great Western region.

Bin 1 is a classic, cool climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that is perfumed, spicy and peppery, yet well balanced with no overt dominance of alcohol:

Vintage 2015: a moderate season with no real hot spells. Very cool nights and warm days ensured the grapes ripened fully but retained all their natural acidity. Quality is very good, but crops were reduced due to the dry weather and spring frosts.

Colour: this wine is very dark red with a garnet hue

Bouquet: lifted aromas of rose petal, blueberry, black jubes and Asian spices with some nutty notes in the background.

Palate: juicy red and blue fruit flavours that fill the mouth. The plush medium bodied texture is drawn out for a long savoury finish.

Cellaring: this vibrant and youthful wine is great to enjoy now with food but will soften and gain complexity over the next 10-15 years.

Food matches: this is a great wine with food – particularly dishes like spring lamb, or to drink with a seared venison ribeye steak and a wild mushroom sauce.

Alc/vol: 14.0%
