The idea of a Villages blend is to create charming and inspiring wine from different villages within a region. This is a blend of blend 51% tempranillo, 44% touriga nacional and 5% grenache. Variety and Heathcote regional typicity in spades.

Heathcote Ridge and Willoughby Bridge Vineyards located in Corop in Northern Heathcote.

 

Season

2017 was a long cool growing season and quite fruitful. Both tempranillo and touriga required crop thining to ensure fruit concentration and balance.

 

Tasting Note

Deep red with purple edge. Deeply scented dark fruits, spice and olive tapinade. Integrated tannin, gentle acidity, violets, wild herbs, dark plum, medium bodied and seriously delicious.

Winemaking

Each variety is hand-harvested and vinified in 6 tonne open fermenters. 15% whole bunch inclusion in the tempranillo and touriga and a little more in the small portion of Grenache. 10 months in 500 litre French oak puncheons (10% new). Regular rackings for aeration with the final blend 51% tempranillo, 44% touriga nacional and 5% grenache.

Alc/Vol: 14.5% pH: 3.67 TA: 6.1g/L

 

Cellaring

This wine will continue to develop beautifully over the next 4-6 years if stored in a cool dark cellar.
