Thousands of foodies make the long journey to Stefano’s Restaurant in Mildura in regional Victoria every year, but you can now experience the two-hat restaurant without leaving Melbourne – well for one night at least.

Stefano’s head chef Jim McDougall will showcase his cuisine at a VIP Food and Beer Experience at leading craft beer festival, the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS), at the Royal Exhibition Building next month.

Held from 23 to 25 May, as part of Good Beer Week, GABS is an annual event for the discerning craft beer enthusiast and is expected to attract around 12,000 people this year.

The three-day event will feature more than 250 beers from 130 breweries, as well as gourmet street food, a fromagerie, entertainment, brewery and industry stands and free educational seminars.

On the balcony of the historical Royal Exhibition Building, McDougall will set up a taste of his highly sought after menu, which will be expertly matched with craft beers from Mildura Brewery and other renowned breweries from Australia and abroad.

GABS co-founder Steve Jeffares says it’s a coup to have Stefano’s on board, and the event perfectly complements the festival.

“Foodies and craft beer enthusiasts are increasingly realising the vast opportunities available when pairing food and craft beer. Having cuisine from Stefano’s at GABS matched with the specialty beers we feature will challenge and excite the palates of these discerning attendees.”
