Bellarine cider house, Flying Brick Cider Co has won the only trophy and only Gold medal awarded at the prestigious Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Show held recently.  The accolades came for the cidery’s Pear Cider.  Amidst tough national competition, Flying Brick Cider Co also took home a Bronze medal for its Draught Cider.

Following strict international standards, the Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards comprised three days of judging with 53 entries over 11 classes.  Exhibits were judged in a blind tasting from both a technical and consumer appreciation perspective, taking into consideration appearance, aroma, flavour and overall impression.  There were 53 entries in total, with one gold, five silver and 16 bronze medals awarded.

Flying Brick’s Cider Maker, Nyall Condon said the trophy was incredibly exciting for a number of reasons.

“We were up against the big names in Australian cider - all the mainstreams - and won, a seriously big deal for a boutique cider house on The Bellarine,” he said.

“Not only that, it goes to prove we are on the right track with our absolute commitment to a natural product.  Flying Brick ciders are 100 per cent natural – they contain no sugars, concentrates or colourings unlike so many other ciders on the market, some of which are no more than synthetic, carbonated water.  Our winning Pear Cider is crafted from fresh, succulent Pakenham pears, that’s it!”

Mr Condon said that the impending opening of the Flying Brick Cider House in Wallington in December would be another great step forward for Flying Brick Cider Co’s evolution.

“A team of us are already in planning mode for crafting unique, small run batches of cider onsite at the new cidery which will showcase local and other heritage fruit capabilities.”

The new Flying Brick Cider House is under construction on the Bellarine Highway, Wallington and will feature a spectacular state-of-the-art cider crafting facility, restaurant, dedicated tasting area as well as an accredited Tourism Geelong & The Bellarine Visitor Information Centre.  It will be open 7 days for lunch and guided tastings as well as dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

Note: Flying Brick Ciders are brewed onsite at five star winery, Leura Park Estate, in the heart of the stunning Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria.
