Craft beers from Two Birds Brewing

Craft beers from Two Birds Brewing

Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen took a two week tour of the US West Coast and at the end of it, had started a plan to build their own brewing business. Six months later, in June 2011, Two Birds Brewing was born.

Initially working from a brewing facility in Geelong, Golden Ale and Sunset Ale were crafted. By mid 2013 plans were afoot for investment in their own brewery and in mid 2014 Two Birds Brewing was operating out of its own facility (aka The Nest) in Spotswood, Melbourne.

At the same time the adjoining Tasting Room was opened, offering all the beers on tap along with food from chef Matt Beard whose eminently appropriate philosophy is "good food to have with good beer".

The brewing philosophy of Two Birds is simple: they make the kind of beers they enjoy drinking. Beers that have flavour and interest while being clean, sessionable and approachable. Balance too is important so the beers go well with good times and friends as well as matching what's on your plate. Jayne and Danielle also like to have fun and do things a little differently so expect to see some more out-there beers in the future!

Here are tasting notes for the Two Birds Range:

Two Birds Golden Ale

Two Birds Golden Ale is brewed using ale, wheat and Vienna malts to provide the rich, golden colour and a light honey character. Motueka hops from New Zealand contribute melon and citrus aromas and flavours while Australian Summer hops deliver spice and apricot notes. It is the perfect accompaniment to good food.

Alc/vol: 4.4%

Two Birds Sunset Ale

Two Birds Sunset Ale is brewed using a distinct combination of malts including pale, wheat and Crystal malts to provide the round, rich, toffee notes. The addition of US Citra and Australian Cascade hops adds a twist of grapefruit and tropical notes to balance the biscuity malt base. This brew is round, rich and flavoursome.

Alc/vol: 4.6%

Two Birds Bantam IPA

Two Birds Bantam IPA is a handcrafted, full flavoured, session India Pale Ale. This copper-coloured beer shows tropical and fruit salad notes, with refined bitterness which gives it great drinkability. This brew is smooth, clean and fruity. With lower alcohol than a standard IPA, this lil' beer punches well above its weight!

Alc/vol 4.7%

Two Birds Taco Beer - Flights of Fancy

Two Birds Taco is brewed using ale and wheat malts, with an addition of flaked corn. Citra and Amarillo hops contribute citrus and fruity characters, which complement the additions of coriander leaf and fresh lime peel. The beer pours a hazy shade of pale and we use a clean, ale yeast to allow the fresh flavours to shine.

Alc/vol 5.2%

Beers from Two Birds Brewing are available at good bottleshops around Australia.
