Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association (MPVA) is excited to announce the second annual Australian Pinot Noir Challenge (APNC).

Committee Chairman Lindsay McCall and Chair of Judges Philip Rich are pleased to introduce two new features of the APNC for 2018. The first is the inclusion of representatives from other major pinot noir producing regions to participate in the organising committee.

Chairman Lindsay McCall explains, "The Australian Pinot Noir Challenge should be owned by all pinot noir producers; it is valuable recognition of the variety and a brilliant chance to showcase wines from across Australia. To have a range of regions share ideas and work together highlights the wine industry's collegiate spirit – as well as having a bit of fun along the way."

Also new for 2018, is the introduction of a presentation dinner in Melbourne to announce the regional winners and overall trophy winner, as well as taste the top wines from each region.

The APNC is open to all Australian pinot noir producers and judging will be held on the Mornington Peninsula on 13-14 August 2018, with judges Philip Rich (Chair of Judges), Jim Chatto and Sarah Crowe.

Chair of Judges Philip Rich anticipates the APNC will grow in 2018, with an even stronger response expected in its second year.

"The regional spread and number of wines entered was fantastic in year one. This year, we want to encourage all pinot noir producing regions to grow their representation and further showcase the great depth and breadth of Australian pinot noir,” he explains.

The APNC will be judged according to ASVO standards. The judging panel will score on a 100-point scale, with the highest pointed wine from each region (of gold medal standard, 95 points or higher) eligible for the overall champion 2018 Australian Pinot Noir Challenge Trophy.

The top regional wines will be poured at the presentation dinner in Melbourne on Saturday 18 August 2018, culminating in announcement of the 2018 APNC Trophy winner.
