Oakridge welcomes Matt Stone as Head Chef
And Jo Barrett as Sous Chef
Yet again Oakridge is lifting the bar on quality and innovation in its stunning Yarra Valley operation. Matt Stone, the current star of sustainable dining, is newly on board to lead the Yarra Valley team into his chosen territory of truly modern, intelligent and innovative food ideas.
“Matt Stone is a once in a generation genius – a culinary visionary whose sustainable restaurants make the rest of the world look years out of date” – Alex James, Recipes that Rock
It’s incredibly exciting to have him in a region that is a seamless match for Matt’s style and approach. He started in the Margaret River, was sous chef at awarded Perth restaurant, Star Anise by the age of 20 and then went on to challenge the status quo of ideas around food and kitchen principles with Joost Bakker at Greenhouse, Perth. This partnership has seen both he and Joost win many national and state awards with Gourmet Traveller’s prestigious Best New Talent Award in 2011 being just one on the list.
His more recent projects, Silo and zero waste café Brothl, have both been edgy.
Out in the Yarra Valley Matt will be getting his hands dirty setting up Oakridge’s very own food garden with dreams of a spring harvest. Over July, when he’s not at the stove, or on the end of a shovel, he’ll be exploring the region with his partner and Sous Chef, sensationally good baker and patissier, Jo Barrett. A full menu launch is penciled in for September.
Impressive and distinctive character across Oakridge's remarkable handcrafted and award winning wines is now equally paired to a kitchen team galvanized to push boundaries in craftsmanship and flavour.
