Meet some Artists of the Margaret River Region with Carmen Jenner and Gabi Mills »
Featuring over 70 artists from this famously blessed region
Western Australia’s Margaret River region is an area that’s famously blessed – rich in wine, great food, photogenic landscapes at every turn and human creativity in spades. To celebrate the artists who have made the region so well-regarded, M&P Publishing is proud to announce the publication of Artists of the Margaret River Region.
Over 70 artists currently working in the Margaret River region are featured in this beautifully designed book, which is published in association with Margaret River Region Open Studios (MRROS), with specially commissioned portraits and photographs of their work by leading local photographers, Elements Margaret River.
Some of the most important galleries which for the past 30 years have supported the work of artists from the south west and beyond are also included in the book.
With profiles written by award-winning writers Carmen Jenner and Gabi Mills, the book is a legacy publication designed to capture the incredible artistry that finds expression in a wide variety of mediums, thanks to the artists who live and work in the region.
Featuring a diverse collection of artists including Leon Pericles, Fi Wilkie, Cate Edwards, Helen Priest, Jo Broadhurst and Christian Fletcher as well as emerging talents such as Alice Linford Forte and Rubi Hatton, the book reflects the deep connection the region has for those who create within its borders.
A collector’s item, Artists of the Margaret River Region is a beautiful visual record of those who have been influenced creatively by the region.
Inspired by the MRROS concept (where artists throw open their studio doors for a few weeks every year, inviting the art-buying public to see them in action), the book showcases the work of the many artists who have participated so far in this unique public art movement in Margaret River.
Carmen Jenner, author of Artists of the Margaret River Region writes:
“As story after story unfurled, my world became a kaleidoscope of paint, ink, pencil, pastel, aerosols, timber, textiles, metal, glass, mixed media, collages, sculpture, art installations, clay, ceramics, collographs, etchings, jewellery, printmaking and photographs.
I learned how some artists were reviving the early techniques of encaustic, iconography, bookmaking, blacksmithing, while others were upcycling or even developing their own mediums from the very land which compelled them to create in the first place. In one instance, an artist intensely studied Renaissance techniques to press his own walnut oil.”
Artists of the Margaret River Region by Carmen Jenner and Gabi Mills is published by M&P Publishing, (Subiaco, WA, Oct 2016; sc) and retails in Australia for RRP A$40.
