Leading Western Australian wine writers Peter Forrestal and Ray Jordan have teamed up to take readers on an extraordinary journey through the rich history of the Margaret River region, beginning in 1967 with Dr Tom Cullity.

Margaret River in Australia's South-West is internationally renowned for award-winning wines and there are now more than 200 wineries producing over 20% of the country's premium wine.

Through a combination of captivating text, photos, and Forrestal’s  and Jordan’s wine expertise and intimate knowledge of the wines and people, The Way It Was will capture any reader’s imagination.

  • the scientist whose research led him to believe that the South West could produce wine gems;
  • the politician who could see that a successful premium wine industry could put Western Australia on the map; and
  • the clutch of men and women who battled nature and the unknown to establish wineries that are, half a century on, the toast of the country.
