Bonking Frog Wines is a small boutique winery located in North Boyanup, in the Geographe wine region of Western Australia's South West Coast.

The name is taken from the Western Banjo Frog, a particularly noisy fellow found in and around the vineyard and well known locally for his distinctive call, a loud BONK!

While he is only one of many frogs found on the property, he attracts more attention than his quieter friends, and so this small family owned winery followed his lead to ‘stand out from the crowd’.

There is also a sense of fun in the name as in wine is about enjoyment – is there anything better than sharing good wine and good food with friends?

The vineyard was planted on the banks of the Preston River, in the Geographe Region, South West of Western Australia in 1996 and now owners Julie and Phil are working very hard to create a sustainable vineyard, and having so many frogs around means they must be doing something right!

Bonking Frog is unique in the region and probably in many parts of Australia, as thers just one variety grown, Merlot, and again, the reason is simple, they love it!

What’s not to love about Merlot, soft velvety tannins, beautiful rich berry flavours?

Four styles of Merlot are available with a recently introduced white:

– Summer Merlot – our take on Rosé

– Winter Merlot - medium bodied dry red

– Scandal Merlot - off dry red, designed to be chilled

– Foreigner SSB - classic blend made from fruit grown in Margaret River

The 2011 Paterson Reserve Merlot was released in mid 2013, a style that harks back to the first vintages – intense, full bodied.
