In a coup for the region, Bellarine wineries Leura Park Estate and Jack Rabbit Vineyard took out five out of a possible 13 trophies at the recent French-Australian Chamber of Commer FACC Le Concours des Vins du Victoria awards.

Now in its 22nd year, Le Concours des Vins du Victoria is a prestigious wine show featuring a judging panel of French wine experts and commentators.

Leura Park Estate received three of the most coveted awards (including Wine of the Show) for its Grand Vintage Sparkling Blanc de Blanc. The Leura Park Estate Grand Vintage Sparkling Blanc de Blanc won consecutive trophies for:

  • Wine of the Show
  • Best Sparkling Wine
  • Best White Wine

Sister winery, Jack Rabbit Vineyard won two trophies including:

  • Chairman’s Choice Trophy for the Jack Rabbit Riesling
  • Best Sauvignon Blanc

Director of Leura Park Estate and Jack Rabbit Vineyard, Lyndsay Sharp said to have French experts deem the two winery offerings worthy of trophy status was a great honour and the result of a terrific team effort.

“The results are a credit to all at Leura Park Estate and Jack Rabbit Vineyard – Vineyard Manager Andrew Mahoney and his team for growing great grapes in the first place as well as Leura Park Estate winemaker Darren Burke and Jack Rabbit Vineyard winemaker Nyall Condon,” she said.

“We are all proud to contribute in a small way to Geelong and The Bellarine’s reputation as a great wine producing region.”

Mrs Sharp said Leura Park Estate and Jack Rabbit Vineyard were very individual in their wine offerings reflecting the two winemakers’ respective approaches to the winemaking craft.

“Although the focus for both is on relatively small batch production and showcasing Bellarine cool climate ‘terroir’, Leura Park Estate wines tend to have more of a French influence and complexity whereas Jack Rabbit Vineyard wines are more linear – sophisticated without being complicated.”
